Beginning Pottery Wheel with Daniel Kim Lee

While majoring in Biology at Carleton College, MN, I took several clay courses ranging from Throwing and Advanced Ceramics, to Ceramics’ History and Design. Ever since I first got my hands wet and dirty, I have invested in a passion for creating within the loving and welcoming ceramic community at Carleton, Northfield and now Zumbrota. Storytelling before the radiating heat of a wood kiln and volunteering at NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) are just a few examples in which I engaged with and made valuable connections with amazing potters and other clay artists around the world. I developed a personal admiration for the endless possibilities of clay and the community that embraces it, so I am thrilled to share that with you.

Want to learn the art of making functional pottery on the potter’s wheel? Pottery Wheel Instructor Daniel Kim Lee will teach participants to center on the wheel, shape and trim pots, and more. The classes are suitable for beginners even kids ages 11+ (with an adult) as well as for advanced beginners, those who have some experience with throwing pots and want more time with an instructor. This four week class is on Saturdays, September 10 - October 1 from 12:30-3pm.

These classes have a maximum of twelve students, ensuring plenty of student to teacher contact time, making them ideal if you have little or no experience with clay and want to test your interest. Get your hands wet and enjoy the process. Wear old clothes and get ready to work the wheel. Tool kits are available through Crossings. Supply fee includes one bag of clay (25 pounds), all glazing materials, and use of studio tools.

Price is $98, with $18 supplies and $3 per piece for firing.
