Get your swing thing going when Jivin’ Ivan and the Kings of Swing Lindy Hop onto the stage at Zumbrota's State Theatre on Sat., May 12, at 8 p.m.
Ivan is Ivan Whillock, who played brass instruments in his band, the Blue Notes, back in the day when today’s oldies were new. Now he’s switched to guitar and six years ago formed another band, the Kings of Swing, to play music that gets toes tapping and hands clapping.
Other members of the band, based in Faribault, include Dr. Mike Hildebrandt, a multi-instrumentalist whose work as a physician funds his musical life and who is a member of the MN Rock/Country Music Hall of Fame. Also in the band are vocalist Dallas Musselman, who is equally confident belting out a show tune, crooning a classic ballad or getting down to business with a jazz number; Ivan’s son and drummer for the band Mark Whillock, who has been performing and touring since he was in high school; and Ben Brian, the newest member of the band, on bass. Special guest and virtuoso keyboardist Doug Madow will join the Kings for this performance, too.
The Kings play with an irresistible energy that will have audiences jitterbugging, jiving, and jumping – or at least dancing in their seats!
