“Claudia Schmidt is a true artist-she has talent AND the
fire of genius”
– The Boston Globe
Claudia Schmidt belongs to the genre of hyperliterate songwriters,
a word-monger of the first order, sometimes bursting at the boundaries
of song form. In addition, she's a firecracker of a singer, irrepressibly
emotional, and a radiant, almost overwhelming performer.
It's the folksinger trifecta, and in this Schmidt is nearly in a class by
herself.
-Chris Rietz, Lansing State Journal
Fusing folk, jazz, blues and world music may seem impossible to do well – but it comes effortlessly to singer/songwriter Claudia Schmidt as she ties it all together with literate lyrics and self-accompaniment on a 12-string guitar.
Besides possessing a silky-smooth singing voice and the chops to write intriguing verses, Schmidt is well-known for accompanying herself on a 12-string guitar. Schmidt transfixes listeners with her ethereal voice and insightful lyrics, then surprises them with a humorous anecdote between songs. Audiences are as delighted by the quirky “hodge-podge” of music, poetry, story, laughter and drama as they are by her peerless musicality.
While Schmidt started out nearly four decades
ago in the folk genre, she’s never hesitated to explore other musical
styles. She’s recorded fourteen albums of mostly original songs incorporating
folk, blues, and jazz idioms, and featuring her acclaimed 12-string guitar
and mountain dulcimer playing.
