Ann Reed Presents
“Nothing But Class: The Songs of Dorothy Fields”
$18 in advance /$20
day of show
Doors open at 7pm

Singer/songwriter Ann Reed diverges from her usual repertoire to pay tribute to Dorothy Fields, the first woman inducted into the Songwriting Hall of Fame and one of the first to earn a living from her songs. Reed and fellow musicians Denise Tabet, Dan Chouinard and Joan Griffith perform “Nothing But Class: The Songs of Dorothy Fields,” at Crossings.
If her name is little known, Fields’ music is instantly recognized. A list of titles – “I Can't Give You Anything But Love,” “Big Spender,” “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” and “The Way You Look Tonight,” has you instantly hearing the music and singing the lyrics, if only to yourself.
During the concert, Reed also will give some insight into the life and art of Dorothy Fields.
Fields made her living as a lyricist from 1925 through the 1960's. Besides her Hall of Fame honors, she was the first woman to receive a songwriting Oscar. The performance is made possible in part by the award of an artistic initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to Reed.
Reed, a Minnesota native, has been a performer for her entire adult life. Her early influences included the Kingston Trio, Joni Mitchell, Cream, the Beach Boys and more.
Among Reed’s appearances are: Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion, ABC's Good Morning America, and NPR's Morning Edition. She wrote and performed Heroes, a theatrical presentation produced by Minnesota Public Radio.

Ann is a 2011 recipient of a Legacy Grant, Minnesota State Arts Board. This
activity is made possible in part by a Grant from the Minnesota State Arts
Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State legislature and by
a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
