An event that never fails to delight sell-out audiences, Accordion-O-Rama returns to Crossings!

Accordion-O-Rama has been around since 2004 when Dan Newton, a.k.a. Daddy Squeeze, and Marie Marvin, who runs Crossings at Carnegie, organized the first event. According to a 2010 MinnPost article by Pamela Espeland, “the idea was to hold a miniature accordion festival, showcasing different musicians and musical styles, in a town where people were likely to show up, a stronghold of Polish and German heritage and polka.” There continues to be cookies at the intermission.
This year’s performers are Denny Malmberg and Patrick Harison.

Denny Malmberg can be seen performing throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul area with various groups including: The Golden Strings, The Mouldy Figs, and with his own Quartet. He also a frequent performer at Crooners’ Lounge & Supper Club performing with the talented songstress Charmin Michelle.

Denny is a retired high school band director (36) teaching at Mpls. South High for the majority of his career. After retiring from South High, Denny also taught at St. Olaf College covering sabbatical leaves for the regular directors for the Norsemen and St. Olaf Bands. In addition, for seven years he supervised instrumental student teachers for the college. He also performs for corporate events, private parties, and occasional church events. Activities include the release of a solo compact disc and most recently The Denny Malmberg Quartet featuring Charmin Michelle “Struttin’ Out” (see Denny for details). He is delighted to be performing for the Crossings at Carnegie once again.

Patrick Harison is a young American button accordionist adept in a wide variety of settings and genres. He currently resides in Minneapolis, performing in a diverse array of projects including Patty and The Buttons, Jack Klatt and The Cat Swingers, The Cactus Blossoms, and Eisner's Klezmorim. Harison also is active as an orchestral soloist playing both classical and pops programs with top orchestras across the United States under the baton of luminaries such as Doc Severinsen and Sarah Hicks. When not performing, he is an in demand composer, session musician, educator and arranger.
Born to a goldsmithing accordion player and a ballet teacher, Patrick Harison grew up in a home full of art, music and dance. He learned how to turn the bulky and boisterous machine into a sensitive instrument by listening to and imitating the masters from every corner of the world. His only formal study was with midwestern accordion hero Larry Malmberg. For extra income in high school, he formed a zydeco band which performed regularly at regional festivals, gaming establishments and backyard barbecues. As a young musician, he also had the opportunity to perform regularly with many notable Minnesota artists including; the Parisota Hot Club, Connie Evingson, The Mandragora Tango Orchestra, Clearwater Hot Club and many others in the worlds of jazz, folk and classical music.
