Handbuilding Basics with Devon Gelhar

Join us for a special three evening course trying out a few hand building projects. This class is perfect for someone looking to get their hands dirty and try clay for the first time as well as the more experienced hand builder.

We will make a variety of objects ranging from functional and practical to decorative and sculptural. Students with previous experience are encouraged to bring projects and ideas to work on.

Basic hand building skills and decorating techniques will be taught.

Devon Gelhar is a Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate in Studio Art, with an emphasis in Ceramics and Art History at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She will be attending Syracuse University in the fall of 2017 to continue her studies and pursue a Master of Fine Art degree in Ceramics.

Devon discovered and fell in love with ceramics in high school, and enjoyed it as a hobby for many years before deciding to go back to school to make it her career. She produces a range of functional ceramic wares, considering herself foremost to be a potter. She works primarily with Earthenware clay, enjoying the rich red clay and the bright color palate she can achieve on her pots. When not in the studio making, she likes to spend time outdoors rock climbing and exploring the natural areas around her.
