A Memory that "Sticks": An Essay Recipe with Rachael Hanel

Do you have a story about yourself or a family member that you’ve always wanted to write? This workshop will guide you through the process of writing memoir and essay. You will learn how both the “outer story” and “inner story” can result in a rich, captivating story that appeals to readers. You will leave the workshop with a plan to develop your own essays or memoirs.

There will be handouts and people should bring a pen and paper or a laptop as time will be provided for them to write and practice what they learn.

Rachael has more than 10 years of curriculum experience developing and teaching courses at the university level, both face-to-face and online.

She is the author of, "We'll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger's Daughter," available from the University of Minnesota Press. The book was a finalist in memoir/creative nonfiction category for the 2014 Minnesota Book Awards.
