Beginning Pottery with Emily Wartsbaugh

Want to learn the art of making functional pottery on the potter’s wheel? Pottery Wheel Instructor Emily Wartsbaugh will teach participants to center on the wheel, shape and trim pots, and more. The classes are suitable for beginners and those who have some experience with throwing pots.You’ll `, should you choose. This six week class starts on Wed, Feb. 21, from 6:30-9 pm. Further dates are Feb. 28, Mar. 7, 14, 21, 28.

These classes have a maximum of ten students, ensuring plenty of student to teacher contact time, making them ideal if you have little or no experience with clay and want to test your interest. Get your hands wet and enjoy the process. Wear old clothes, bring an old towel and get ready to work the wheel. Tool kits are available through Crossings. Supply fee includes one bag of clay (25 pounds), all glazing materials, and use of studio tools.

Emily Wartsbaugh has a studio art major with a focus in ceramics from Gustavus. She has taught for 14 years as a special education teacher, teaching visual arts for over 8 years. Emily has taught wheel throwing, hand building, and multimedia classes to both youth and adults at Crossings beginning in 2004. She is the founder of Great Shark Lake Studios, through which she sells and exhibit her own art pieces in painting, ceramics, photography, and multimedia media.

Price is $148, with $18 supplies and $3 per piece for firing.
