linda mckay

Linda Back McKay is a poet, author and teaching artist with the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis and elsewhere. Her work has appeared in literary publications such as Great River Review, WaterStone Review, White Pelican Review and 33 Minnesota Poets. Her poem, "Carousel," was recently part of a "motion poem" public installation projected onto The Union Depot during the St. Paul Art Crawl.

She is a recipient of several awards and residency fellowships from the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and Norcroft.

McKay is author of the groundbreaking nonfiction work, Shadow Mothers: Stories of Adoption and Reunion (North Star Press.) That book was inspiration for the play, “Watermelon Hill,” which was produced by professional theater. Her poetry collections include Ride That Full Tilt Boogie (North Star Press), The Cockeyed Precision of Time (White Space Press) and The Next Best Thing, published by Nodin Press.

You've written some fine poems and you'd like to share them with the world. How and where can you do so? Linda will share a wealth of information on how and where to publish poems, including self-publishing and creating a chapbook and/or collection. Then, she and students will discuss and practice the presentation of work, including:

  • How do we present ourselves to bookstores and other venues?
  • Reading aloud and presentation
  • Connecting with the audience

This class will be in a workshop format and designed also to fine-tune poems in structured critique setting. Linda will deliver an extensive list of publishing resources and offer some coaching.
